The best present ever? The year they closed the mountain passes and I was stuck at my house 5 hours from the family home and I couldn't get there. My Dad had been ill and we were surprised he was still with us at Christmas and I knew it would be the last Christmas I could spend with them and now I couldn't get there. It had been a very rough year for me personally and I had been counting on going home to be with family. I was feeling very sorry for myself. It started snowing Christmas Eve day and kept snowing and snowing. I led the choir at church at the time and was due to be at Midnight Mass...but no plows and I knew my little car wouldn't make it but I had to get there.... who should show up but my friend Dr. Mark with his big ol' suburban and drove me to Mass...and back home. (not bad for an agnostic M.D.)

The next morning I woke up to almost 2 feet of snow and no decorations in my house as I thought I would be driving home that morning...I had the blues all morning until I heard a knock on the door and there was my friend and a borrowed pair of cross country skis and a stocking full of stuff for coffee and hot cocoa. He didn't have family in town either and he had bags and bags of Christmas treats to pass out so we skied around town and visited other friends, sang Christmas Carols for people and spent the day in the sun and snow and being goofy.

It was the best gift I could have gotten; visiting old friends, making new friends and relearning the meaning of Christmas.

What's a James Avery cross?

Wine Fairie, James Avery is a jeweler that oddly enough was agnostic but found Christ and makes beautiful jewelry, many of which are religious in theme. The particular cross Pat is referring to is this one that she received last Christmas from "Santa".

The best Christmas present for me is always the warmth and love I receive when others open gifts I give or respond to a kindness offered. Nothing better in my book. Anything I happen to get in the form of a present is gravy. That said, I still want that On30 Forney 2-4-4 from Bachmann dear.

YES, BUT IT CAME 60 SOME YEARS LATER
WHEN WE WERE YITTLE A LOT OF THE TOYS WERE TIN WITH A WIND-UP SPRING.
MY BROTHER HAD MY NAME ONE YEAR AND
HE PLAYED WITH "MY SEAPLANE" TILL HE
BROKE THE SPRING, HE WRAPPED IT ANYHOW AND HAD IT UNDER THE TREE. I
WAS REALLY HAPPY WHEN I OPENED THE
SEAPLANE WITH THE WIND UP PROPELLER.
THE FIRST TIME I TRIED TO PLAY WITH
IT I DISCOVERED IT WAS BROKEN. SOME
YEARS LATER I TOLD THE STORY TO HIS
SON WHO WAS HOME FOR THE XMAS HOLIDAY FROM COLLEGE. WHEN I FINISHED THE BOY LOOKED AT MY
BROTHER AND SAID "DAD DID YOU DO THAT?" THE BROTHER COULDN'T LIE, HE
WAS FAR TO RED FACED. I FINALLY GOT
MY CHRISTMAS PRESENT!!!!!!!!!!

Right now I have to say the best Christmas presents I have ever received are my James Avery wedding band and my garnet ring.

When John and I married, he was unemployed, and I was at my end financially. We were married in July on Bronco and Cin's deck! We purchased our wedding rings at Walmart! By December, John had a contract, so for Christmas we were able to replace the Walmart rings with really pretty ones from James Avery: John's is a simple gold band and mine is a gold band with 6 small diamonds. I treasure all 4 rings. That same Christmas, John got me a silver ring with a garnet (my birthstone). It has an oval garnet and has a gold heart on either side. I liked the ring because I thought it looked like our love. While I don't wear any of those rings any more, I treasure them all.

My love for John is still real and tangible, but those rings are the symbol of my past: sweet and perfect. To be charished. I'm moving on. My greatest gift, like Winefairie are the friends who support and love me without condition; all of you who shower me with God's grace daily. That's my greatest Chrismas gift, and I get it all the time!

Wow, I'm not usually that preachy, excuse me.
