How do you feel about "store-bought" gifts vs. hand-made gifts for Christmas?
Consider both the GIVING and the RECEIVING viewpoints.
Have your feelings changed as you have aged?

Gifts! Gotta love them anyway you can get them. That hasn't changed since I was a kid and I am not planning on changing it now. I always appreciate the thought put into giving whether its purchased or handmade.
I also love giving presents.
I like presents - whatever shape size or configuration. If someone goes to the trouble to actually make me something, that is great!
But - presents, lots of presents!!
I like giving them too - and have been known to make them from time to time.
Of course if you don't happen to like what you received, you have a couple of options:
1. The closet - so that it can be dragged out and placed in plain view in advance in case the person comes to call.
2. Re-gifting - which makes you feel good twice! First, because you feel good about getting rid of the item from your household. Second, because after all you are giving yourself of the item to another person.
Hmmmm...purchased gifts if it really makes me think of the person or I know it is something they are passionate about. Mostly I like to give my giftees things that can be used throughout the hols...wine, homebaked goodies, etc. I like to think it's a double gift. Not only is it tasty but it might make things easier for someone in the hustle and bustle of the holidays
Okay, receiving hand made crocheted tissue box covers or macramé plant hangers - not good
Receiving hand made candy and baked goods - most of the time is good
Receiving store bought - Sportsman Outdoors gift box from a major discount store not good. (it show that no thought about us was put into the gift…..)
Receiving store bought - items that relate to your personality and show that some thought went into them is really good
So what it boils down to is the 'THOUGHT'…. And typically, you can tell if any thought was put into the gift.

I don't think it really matters as long as thought went into it as bronco, pef and patr said. And as WF said, if it is something to help the giftee around the Holidays...Woo Hoo! I'm all for it! One year (long ago. LOL) I made hand crafted gifts for almost everyone on my list and they really enjoyed the time, effort and thought.
I still feel pretty much the same way now. I wish I had more time and energy to do more things. Maybe next year.......
Gumdrop....I didn't see that. I am so sorry! I wonder why.
Either way is cool. I wish I could think of something to make everyone for Christmas this year. My sis is making me a scarf and I am excited about it. My mom is buying me a bedskirt and I am excited about that, too! Presents are just fun!
