Question #6

Why?

I would want to keep my mind. I had one grandmother with altzhiemers{sp} and the other had little strokes and became senile the last few years. I don't want live that way.

I kind of have to go along with smowhak65 and caterry.

I was fortunate to know four of my great-grandparents and my grandmother in a way that allowed me to benefit from their wisdom and love. I heard of their lives, our family history, and received advice that has stood me in good stead. I knew my grandmother as a gentle wise woman who taught me the meaning of patience, unconditional love, and acceptance. As I witnessed her decent into the rape of her mind by alzheimer's I truely learned what it is to grieve while someone is still alive. I felt cheated by the loss of her mind. I never lost her love, but I hated loosing her wit, humor, and her art (she was a quilter, seamstress, and knitter).

I pray daily that my parents retain their minds and my wish is that, if I am fortunate enough to live a long life, that my mind stay with me. I would hope that with a clear mind, I would continue to learn and grow as a person and be spared the indignity of the vacant mind I saw in my own grandmother.

I am so sorry to hear aout your grandma, Snow .... your message is wonderfully said ...

I agree with you. The mind is a most important thing .... I would keep my mind.

When my students used to answer this, they would choose body most of the time ... they also thought keeping a 30 year old's mind was silly .... wisdom comes with age and they wanted to get wiser than a 30 year old.

As I see the question ... it is the health of the 30-yr-old mind I'd like to keep ... along with the ability to keep learning and growing more wise over the years.

There's no doubt I would want to keep a healthy mind. Hopefully the 30 year old brain would be smart enough to keep my body healthy also...

My deepest sympathy for your loss snowhawk.
If I had to choose, I would choose to retain the mind of a 30 year old and hopefully, I'd be able to make wise and healthy choices about the best way to treat my body. To have a sharp mind and be locked away in a sick body and not to be able to do anything about it would be almost as horrible as to have a 30 year old body with a mind ravaged by dementia from Alzheimer's or strokes. I've witnessed both sides of the fence.

I started to write a flippant answer about keeping the 30 year old body, but after reading about the suffering of your loved ones (my deepest sympathies, snow...) I'm glad I read before writing!

When my grandmother moved to the nursing home (due to mini strokes) she still had the attitude that her work on earth was not finished. And it wasn't...she touched a lot of lives! So, mind over body...I'm there!

This one is easy -- it would be the body. I wouldn't want to go back to having the mind of a 30 year old. My mind has only gotten better and better in my opinion.
