Yes, it makes no sense to me that we could be the only ones.

It would greatly surprise me if there wasn't life somewhere else in our galaxy and the universe. It would also not surprise me if that life is very different from the carbon-based life on Earth.

But, I highly doubt that we have been visited by aliens. If extraterrestrials have the capability to travel here, why hide their presence? They would have nothing to fear from us.

Most definetly there is life in the universe aside from ourselves. In 1961 an astronomer by the name of Drake created the now famous Drake equation. It isn't as short and sweet as Einsteins, but it may have just as much as an impact on the whole of mankind. Drake wanted to take a philosophical debate and turn it into an academic debate. He created an equation to yield a number that would determine the quantity of life in the Universe. It is an elegant equation taking into account the quantity of planets with life, how much is evolved, and how long the civilization lasted, etc.

Mankind at this point can't know the numbers to all the variables, however which ever way you slice it, you come up with some pretty impressive numbers. Drake now leads SETI or Search for ExtrateresTrial Intelligence. One of the Microsoft guys has gotten into the game as well. It would be easy for another equally advanced civilization to detect us by our Radio and TV transmissions.

Leading Theroretical Physicts postulate that we live in a Multiverse, instead of a Universe. This has all come about by String Theory. They also state that it is possible that a civilization that has lasted for a miliion years might be able to harness the energy of multiple suns and focus this energy to 'jump' from one point in time-space to another point in time-space, thereby making things kind of like Star Trek when they travel at warp speed. Question is, are they close enough to visit us, and have they visited us? This is one of the biggest mysteries of the 20th and 21st century.

I do believe we're not alone. There are others in the universe. I just hope they're doing a better job than us.
