Congratulations, Robbie, on achieving a higher level of maturity than that other kid. It's just one more thing that makes you such an amazing kid.

The common cliché we all have of a nerd in our heads is the overly intelligent dude with nearly total lack of capacity for adequate interaction with social groups other than nerds like himself.

He is depicted by the image of a teenager (fair age for taking nerdish classes), usually skinny due to lack of sports or other excercise, wears eyeglasses (sometimes thick) because of long hours spent reading or at the internet or gaming. Also has unkept hair and a lack of common sense when it comes to dressing up. Usually interested in odd hobbies or pets and is always attracted to things other "normal" people wouldn't be. Girlfriends (or boyfriends - in the case of girl nerds) are usually out of the question, unless they are nerds too. They sometimes have a good not-nerd friend, who helps them cope with hard society - and many bad not-nerd friends that take advantage of their intelligence for homework and other assignments.

So if you look at it like this, it doesn't sound like something everyone would like to be called, even if they are one indeed.

Though, everyone has their own identity and should stick with it, while at the same time trying to blend in with society.

Um... there's an anonymous comment that starts out like mine then diverges into who knows what topic.

Just so you know I don't have anything to do with it...

If by a nerd you mean someone who is intelligent, takes his school work seriously, is not given to typical teenage emotional outbursts, and keeps calm demeanor, then it is a good thing.

If by a nerd you mean a dorky, thick-glasses wearing, pocket protector using, socially inept person who nobody likes and everyone makes fun of, then don't worry about it Robbie, 'cause that is not you.

Whoever called you that is not worth your time or effort.

Today's nerd become tomorrow's CEOs, ie. Bill Gates, anyone. I tell my students be careful who you call nerds, they may be your boss one day or running the country.

That is a compliment as he is doing all the right things and he certainly will become a leader in any field he chooses.
Congratulations Robbie and just keep being the intelligent young gentleman that you are.

The kids I teach are nerds. They're smart and cool. They know their stuff. They've got cred in school. While they are not the most popular, they are respected for what's in their brains. Geeks are the kids who work on the computer. We no longer have the kids in the AV club who hang out with the librarian. You know the ones: thick glasses, pants up to the arm pits, pocket protector types--they're a thing of the past...gone to be CEOs and Generals somewhere...

No Rob, it's not an insult.

Nope! Not in this day and age of computers and video games! (They even have a candy called Nerds! How cool is that?) I've seen pics of Robbie and he's not the sterotypical picture of the 50's "nerd" that we used to think of. My 17 year old thinks he's a doll! The kid who called him that is way off base! Be yourself Robbie! Be proud of your accomplishments!

NOT TO WELL VERSED IN THE 'JARGON'
OF THE DAY, BUT WHAT I HAVE SEEN OF
ITS USAGE I WOULD GUESS THE OTHER
KID IS DA-- JEALOUS. WHAT ARE YOU THE 'CURVE WRECKER' WHEN THE TESTS
COME BACK????????? THE MOST THAT OTHER KID HAS COMING IS THE MOST DISTAINFUL SMILE/SNEER YOUR MOM CAN
TEACH YOU. [LET ME TELL YOU GIRLS
ARE GOOD AT THAT]

I say Robbie is the most awesome 16 yr old boy I have ever seen and if anyone thinks anything less they are probably jealous of him for one reason or another. And hey! Who doesn't like someone to be JEALOUS?

"Nerd" is what the sparsely brain cell populated, over muscled, less imaginative peabrains call someone whose goals and ambitions they cannot identify with..

Thank God....
