Question #275

When you lose a pet do you think it would be easier to have it just disappear and never return and you never know for sure what happened ....

OR ....

Would you rather be beside your pet as they pass into the next life?

Speaking from experience, I have to admit, I would rather be there when the time comes.

I want to know.

In case anyone is wondering, we had one of our cats disappear a couple of days ago. He was not at the door for breakfast as usual. This is not a wandering cat, he is a home body and a great friend. When he is outside, he is usually in the yard or the bushes beside the door.

This has us upset, as we have no idea what has happened to Keeker, our 20 lb grey tabby.

We had another cat killed by a coyote right in our front yard a couple of years ago, but we knew it happened, and we had a chance to say goodbye.

Wow, what a timely question. My mother had to put her kitty down this past weekend, and my brother had to let his long-time buddy go this last week. Our whole family has had a few tears over these events.

From experience, I have to say I have to be there. I have to say good bye to my pet.

Bronco and Cincin, I hope Keeker comes home.

It is always better to be there for the sake of comforting a pet when they are dying and it brings closure for us owners. Pat and I are thinking of you guys and very much hope Keeker returns.

WE NEVER "LOST" A PET. CATS WERE
NEVER ALLOWED. DOGS STAYED TILL THEY GOT TO OLD AND THEY LOOKED LIKE THEY WERE SUFFERING. THEN
ONE DAY SOMEONE WOULD SAY "YOU GOING TO DIG THE HOLE" THE LITTLEST
SAID 'YA' AND THE OLDEST TOOK OUT THE SHOT GUN AND IT WAS ALL OVER AND FORGOTTEN ABOUT IN 5 MINUTES.
THEN IT WAS "FIND A NEW ONE"

To answer this question I have to think about Gina, my pet dog that has visited your house. I would have to be next to her when she passes, since the agony of not knowing what happened to her even if she ran away would be excruciating. Today I had to bring her to the vet to get stiches. We were playing with her frisbee when she fell, and upon returning to the patio was bleeding profusely. All this before I went to work this morning. The vet just called and said she is fine - Thank you God.

Actually ... with Keeker missing ... I would rather BELIEVE that he is happily living with a dogless couple and eating tuna ...

... than KNOW that he has been killed by a coyote or tortured by a demented future serial killer.

In this case ... I want to believe he is in a good place.

Still no sight and no word ...
