First, I turn on the heater. Then I cover the outside taps. After that, I get out my warm woolies and flannel night gown and get under the comforter. I know I'll have at least two cats and possibly a girl child in the bed with me. I also make soup.

When I go to visit Bronco and Cin, I wear a sweater and socks!

Okay, I purchase candy & chocolate and all those things other than milk, bread and toilet paper (since they flew off the shelves 3 days ago)

Then I make sure PEF has the hose bibs covered. I leave one faucet running in the kitchen at all times.

I then put blankets in the car along with a flash light. (okay, so these things never really leave the car)

Once the cold stuff gets here, PEF & I work from home, snuggle with the pups and watch movies, eat candy & popcorn, and wait for the 90 degree weather to return in about 12 hours.....:)

First I wish I was in Santa Monica or the OC again! Then we do all the "normal" winterizing stuff (mulching the garden, switching out the screens, covering the AC..oops we still need to do that!) Anyway, you get the picture! We make sure we have plenty of salt for the driveway and steps, we get our "annual heater check up", break out the winter clothes, check the wood pile to see that we have enough for the Wood Burning Stove, get our Flu shots and then we just deal with whatever Mother Nature gives us! Sometimes we get off easy, sometimes it's brutal, sometimes it's a mixture. When a storm is predicted, we make sure we have the basics in stock, lots of batteries, bottled water, etc. My hubby does suffer from SUV overconfidence (4 wheel drive) so that does concern me a bit!

Glad to hear about the knee Gumdrop!

My wife pretty much nailed down our preparation and was thoroughly accurate on the return of the 90 degree weather, but what she left out is how bummed I am when the exceedingly brief cold snap is over in one day. :-(

God I miss a real winter!

well, if I'm not winterized by now, it's too late. Back in September I made sure the furnace was checked, the oil topped, my studded tires would last another year and that the sprinklers got blown out.

I made sure I had my snowshovel handy and a broom for the car. I also made sure my winter driving kit was in order: chains, shovel, blanket, candles, gloves, flares and chocolate. Driving in E. WA, N.ID and MT in the winter gets a bit rugged but we get used to it about the time of the spring thaw. Then we switch from complaining about the cold and start complaining about the mud.
