Question #347

What important decision in your professional life have you based largely upon your intuitive feelings?

What about your personal life?

Switching from Accounting to IT. Moving from Justin Boot to Acme Brick. Where they the right decisions? I will never know, but most of the time, I enjoy my work.

Personal life? Too many to list..

Professional - making a career shift from IT to mortgage loans - so far so good.

Personal - the latest was getting married - at least asking her (she said YES!!). Purely intuitive and adsolutely the right decision.

My decision to return to teaching was an intuitive one. The bank I worked for was taken over by FSLIC. I could have worked out for me. I was offered a job with them, but chose instead to interview for a teaching position (coerced by some clients after a 3 martini luncheon). When the offer came I agonized over the decision, but took it. After 18 years, I've come to realize that I'm happier making differences in kids' lives. I know I make that difference because they tell me.

In my personal life, I've taken leaps of faith before: some good some bad. Fortunately, those leaps have lead me to a very good place in my life. I have a close family (sometimes I'm not sure if that's a good thing), wonderful friends, and a life that is good.

GUMDROP BACK:
SEVERAL OF YOU MENTIONED 'WRAPPING'
THE OUTSIDE HOSE BIBS. WHY???????
DONT YOU HAVE A SHUT-OFF IN THE BASEMENT OR WHEN YOUR HOUSE WAS BUILT DIDN'T THE PLUMBER INSTALL A
BIB THAT WAS 2-3 FEET LONG AND THE
ACTUAL VALVE WAS WELL INSIDE WHERE IT WAS WARM ENOUGH THAT IT NEVER FROZE. BUT IF IT GOES TO 90 THE NEXT
DAY WHY WORRY ABOUT IT. LET IT FREEZE FOR THE DAY,YOU WONT BE WATER
ING THE LAWN OR WASHING THE CAR???

well, yesterday it was 2 degrees here and I was wishing my intuition had taken me to Taos or Tuscon....

Gumdrop..up here we have to insulate all the pipes to keep them from freezing inside the house. We also have to open the cupboards under any sinks on an exterior wall when the temp stays in the teens and single digits (this week). At night, we leave the taps inside dripping to keep the water flowing and dripping. I made the mistake one year of shutting off outside water but NOT insulating the outside faucets. Ooops!

Professional: To leave a job where the boss was getting "overly friendly" and I felt my rejections were going to show up in my job evals. ICK!My hubby also asks me to help him interview perspective employees because he believes in my intuition. So, far, I'm running about 99%! LOL Must be the Scorpio in me! LOL

Personal: To marry my hubby after only knowing him and dating him for 8 months, is the 1st one that comes to mind. Many others involving my kids, etc.

Professional would have to have been leaving the classroom and the steady paycheck to start my own business ... so far, that has worked out pretty well ....

Personal life ... LOTS of decisions ... LOTS of decisions .... some turned out well .... others were lessons to be learned so that I could hone my intuition!!

My decision at 20 years of age and my second year in college to join the Navy to become a linguist. I loved college, to me it was like a smorgasbord of learning but I wasn't very focused and when you don't have a lot of money or scholarships, you can't afford not to be focused. Becoming a Crypt-linguist/Analyst was what lead later in life to becoming a Business Systems Analyst and Project Manager in the IT field.

In my personal life, it's simple, my decision to put aside my anxieties and fears and call my future wife for that first date. It was "the road less traveled for me" and it has made all the difference.

Professional: Ignoring most people who were telling me to hurry up and get another job after getting laid off in the advertising business. Taking the time to think about what would make "me" happy for once instead of what made everyone else "proud" of me. Deciding to be a housekeeper changed the way my life was headed. I would have been richer but not in the relationships I have gained.

That is sort of personal/professional but personally I would say having a 1 1/2 yr long distance relationship and then choosing to marry Jarrod without really living close to eachother for more than a couple months. I sure got lucky and somedays think I got a lot more than I really deserve.

Basement? Smart Plumbers? I don't think we have those here in Texas. (And if any of you are plumbers on the blog, my apologies)
