Question #591

Do you consider yourself a good driver? What drives you crazy about other drivers on the road??

Did my wife put you up to this question? I will defer to her assessment of my driving skills. I think I do pretty good, except when I am frustrated. I will not tell you how often that occurs when I am behind the wheel but she probably will. :-)

I consider myself a very good driver! I've never had an accident (even a fender bender) and I've only had two speeding tickets in my 21 years of driving. I think the speeding ticket thing is just luck though....I do like to drive a little too fast sometimes.

My biggest gripe with other drivers is poking along in the fast lane. If you want to take a slow Sunday drive, knock yourself out, just get outta my way! I have things to do people!!

I think I am a good driver - but I probably sdrive a little fast.

What bothers me most is people who are mostly unaware that there are other people on the road (and they drive like the road is empty)

I 'think' that I am a very safe and possibly over cautious driver now. That was not the case in my teens and twenties....Bat out of hell could be associated with my driving style back then.

Tail gaters, cell phone users, eratic people who cut me off and CAMRY drivers! should all have thier own roads no where near me.

Also, those people who get in the RIGHT lane of a multi lane road at a STOP light where I want to TURN RIGHT on RED!!! grrrr... I have issues.

I will not comment on PEF's driving skills....he knows my issues with his driving and my momma said "If you can't say something nice...."

For the sake of keeping my response legal, I have commented in the past about how impaired the local derelicts on the road appear. Here are some fo the finr points.

1. Oct 1995, drove from Audelia & 635 to Pueblo, Colorado in a day. Stayed about a week, and drove back. The only point at which I came close to a wreck was at the intersection of US 75 and 635 at 6 a.m. on the way out.

2. Oct 2007 - drove 1290 miles from Dallas to Big Bend, TX and back. Where did I almost colide, where I-30 meets loop 820 in Fort Worth. Most probably a Cowboys fan as the game had just finished on the radio.

The state should pass a 'cell phone' hands free law. Ear Bud devices are cheap. I'm not talking Blue Tooth. A recent well done study shows that even when hands free devices are used, it is the distraction of conversation that cause lapses in concentration.

This has been addressed in this forum before. I replied that we have no idea of how many people driving are hit up with a cell phone call in thier car about Dad/Mom dying, your test results came back and they are not good, or you have to come and get your kid out of a locked down school.

According to 60 Minutes, 80% of all Americans own a cell phone.
