I suffered through many "sit-down" dinners over the years .... didn't really enjoy them at all ... but when Mom decided to do buffet-style-munchie-all-day-long gatherings then Christmas became fun again! The turkey would be there ... sliced and all ... along with gravey and potatoes and stuffing and such ... but we also had a pot of soup or chili on the stove and all kinds of appetizers and snacks and Christmas pies and cookies to nibble on in between opening presents and playing board games and laughing and talking and all the good family stuff!

So .... that is how I like to do things now in my home!

Christmas is never ever turkey with its compliment of fixins. That is for Thanksgiving only. Christmas is usually Ham, Prime Rib, Roast Pork, or anything else that is not Turkey.

I prefer to keep the "standards" for Thanksgiving and do whatever sounds good for Christmas. I prefer the snack-on-munchie-stuff-all-day-long approach to a formal dinner too, Cin, especially when the munchies are in the kitchen of my dear friends! :)

Chris is a bit more traditional in what he wants to eat on the holidays, but I'm bringing him around to my way of thinking....slowly but surely!!!

I usually have two alternatives presented when at Christmas in as far as food is concerned.

1. Re-heat it in the microwave

2. Mouch of of friends

Merry Christmas

We usually have chicken with cornbread dressing (since 3/4's of the family like it) and then a few side items. This year we are doing left over ham & bbq. We have a large family gathering Sunday at my mothers house and should have plenty to eat on Tuesday.

Turkey is ALWAYS optional for me.

braised ribs and Texas Caviar with stir-fried asparagus...buffet style. Not much for sit-downs these days.
