It is surprising to me how many people just do not like Valentine's Day! I asked my teenage tutees about it and they all make faces ... even those with boy/girl friends.
I, personally, am not fond of Valentine's Day ... I think love should be expressed throughout the year and whenever the emotion moves you!
Valentine's Day just seems contrived to me.
Is there such a thing as a Velentine's Scrooge??
The concept is great. A day dedicated to Love.
But the there is too much pressure trying to find the "right" gift especially so close on the heels of Christmas. Over commercialized!
PEF, I love ya!
PATR DITTO - I don't mind Valentine's Day, though it often comes at a very hectic time of the year for us, it is nice to pause and think about the one you love and honor that person.
I kinda like forcing the old man into acknowling his love for me. He's not wordy so those cards hit home for me.
Ya, it's forced recognition but some things have to be dragged outa some peoples.
And any excuse for presents is good.
If there is a 'Valentine Scrooge' I'm probably it! I think it's a Hallmark holiday.
It WAS Saint Valentines day, and it has been usurped by Hallmark, et al to turn it into a commercialized mess in which you better pony up your money to satisfy that special someone or forego 'Well whats wrong with you that you won't celebrate Valentines Day?". So sad that it has gotten down to one day to show that special someone how much you appreciate them. Should be all the time.
I'm with Cin on this one. I think love should be expressed everyday through the little things, not one day each year with jewelry and candy. Although, I totally dig diamonds too, so whatever. :)
It's OK. Makes me feel sad for teenage boys and girls that don't have a "SO" and their friends flaunt the cards and gifts they got.I try to keep it low key. And you're right Cin. Love should be expressed throughout the year.
Valentine's Day helps reminds me how lucky I am to be shown how much I am loved every day of the year by my family.
