If you could build your "Dream House", what features would it have?
Where would it be located?

I have most of the house planned in my head - just don't yet know the location (or locations - I think about a basic design that is tweaked for a beach home, a mountain home, etc.)
The basic design will be along the hawaiian lanaii design - a central sunken garden/pool area with raised porches around the inside.
I do know that it will be as energy independent as possible - use active & passive solar, proper insulation and orientation, may fuel cells or wind or water power - anything to NOT be dependent on the power grid
My dream house is more like 3 houses round a central common area...
3 separate houses with their own privacy...but all my grandkids running in and out of every area..

My dream house would be on several hundred acres in south eastern colorado or upstate wisconsin (some place with ALL 4 seasons). It would be large enough to fulfill my needs. It would be completely energy independent (wind, solar), water would come from a private well and also would have the ability to reclaim grey water as well as rain water. The land would be large enough to farm if necessary (both crop and livestock).

ALL GLASS WINDOWS ON THE EAST AND WEST SIDES SO I COULD SIT IN MY LAZY-BOY CHAIR AN WATCH THE SUNRISE AND SUNSETS. SAVE A MILLION
OR TWO FOR EMBELLISHMENTS AS NEEDED. MORE LAND IF NECESSARY.

My dream house would include my beautiful gf and my two puppies... and be somewhere in the carribean...
Actually I ahve been giving that alot of thought recently. Between myself and my three siblings we haven't gotten together too talk about retirement. Three of us, myself and two other siblings all live in the greater DFW area. So do we retire back to home town, etc.
So this question has brought that issue to the forefront. Depending on where I, or we retire, determines the house, i.e. Hurricane resistant built, etc. Design for the environment, not the other way around.
