I think I would try Belize or Costa Rica. The cost of living is low there, and I have a limited understanding of Spanish, which I could expand.

Damn.. that one's hard. My best guess is as bronco says, some country in central or south america. Usually, dollars are high in value with respect to local currency and cost of living is alot cheaper if compared to the U.S., though the natives earn alot less.

Australia...although I really have no idea of the cost of living, the job market, or how I would get my dogs there...but it sounds like fun! Might be just the place to relocate if I can't find a job in Austin! ha!

I would have to agree with the others - Central or South America as I understand the cost of living is much cheaper and the dollar is higher in value.

I could get by with the Spanish I do know but would have to study the local language.

I could not imagine living permanently in another country. I love the USA.

I'd have to go with the Central or South America: language is attainable, it's warm, people are friendly, and I have friends and family already there. Other options would be Spain--the language thing is okay, climate is good, people, it's pretty.

GERMANY - Know the language, know the people, and by far and wide the best western european country there is. So much in fact that eastern europeans want to migrate there, and Turkey keeps wanting into the European Union so they can then negotiate with Germany about the large Turkish population that lives in Germany.

Aside from the former East Germans, when you think of Germany and the Turks, just think of Texas and the Mexicans in Texas. The situations are very similar, just a different place, different people, different language.

I wonder what gumdrop has to say on this blog?
