Question #90

Question #27 from "The Book of Questions" by Gregory Stock, PH.D.

If God appeared to you in a series of vivid and moving dreams and told you to leave everything behind, travel alone to the Red Sea and become a fisherman, what would you do?

What if you were told to sacrifice your child?

Explain .....

Sacrificing a child would NOT be something I think God would do, so no thanks to that. To the other, I really do not know what I would do - I would have to think long and hard about it.

I am going to have to say that I would probably have to have myself committed. I have seen too many cases recently here in Texas, of women believeing that God wanted them to kill their children ... so they did ... in horrendous fashion ... and now I believe they deserve to die ... in the same fashion ....

As far as leaving it all and traveling to the Red Sea ... as long as it doesn't hurt anyone else, I see nothing wrong with that .... but I think my son and my husband might be a bit upset if I did that.

I can honestly say, I don't know what I would do. God does work in mysterious ways. I do know that there is no way the God in which I believe would ask me to sacrifice one of my children. I went through too much to have them in my life, and He already took at least one before she could experience this life. Sometimes my belief system is shaken, but this I know for sure: God will NOT ask me to give up one of my children. The Red Sea thing? I've only caught one fish in my life...it was so small my dad threw it back, so God knows what kind of fisherman I would be...bad.

I believe God calls people everyday to leave everything behind and become something different for the sake of spreading the Gospel. Hence the Missionary work all around the world. Many of the Apostles Christ called to follow Him were fishermen. The Bible says to test the spirits to know they are from God. I would test these "dreams" against what the sciptures said. If I felt it was truly God, I would be inclined to obey.
In the Old Testament Abraham was asked by God to sactifice his son Isaac. The Bible describes this as a test of his faith. However God stopped him from carrying it out.

This was a preview of what in the New Testament God ultimately did for us in sacrificing His only begotten Son Jesus Christ for all mankind so that we might have the opportunity to spend eternity with Him in Heaven if we so choose. Since this ultimate act of sacrifice has already been done by God Himself. It is not realistic nor logical that God would ask us to sacrifice our child for His sake.

I refer back to my point of TESTING THE SPIRITS TO KNOW IF THEY ARE FROM GOD. This you can do by reading the Bible and seeking God to give you the discernment to tell them apart.

First of all.. I don't believe in God.

And I've had some successive dreams about Beyonce saying something, but I think that's kinda off topic right now ;-)

By the way Bronco, the bible is plagued with instances of God asking for people to sacrifice very precious things, including a child sacrifice. Although he orderd the guy to stop at last minute's notice... :-O
