Any place that is local, off the beaten path, not owned by a major restaurant chain and has really good, inexpensive food preferably displaying some local flavor.

In other words a Mom & Pop place or a "Hole in the Wall".

Yes, the restaurant is on the way to Lafayette, Louisiana south of Alexandria. I do not remember the name but there are signs for the restaurant in Lecompte, LA. They have great Pies, like Pecan, but also have 'cornish pasty' type pies as well. All of them are delicious.

I like this family owner resturaunt called "The Butterfly"... they have good french toast... which is good.

I like family owned resturaunts best!

We like to search out "Mom and Pop" style restraunts used by the locals......sometime impossible to find.
We found a small place outside Atlanta called Home Place that has great real down home food. We always stop there when going to Indiana.

Depends on the area....
Mid-coast - you have to stop at Sheetz Convenience Stores - MTO sandwiches and UTZ potato chips.

PA - the DINERS!

South: Sonic for Large Drinks

Steak-n-Shake is also one of my favs.

THE FIRST ONE I COME TO THAT HAS
NO WAITING LINE. THE NAVY MADE ME STAND IN LINE FOR EVERY MEAL, SO THAT IS ONE THING I REFUSE TO DO.
AS FOR WHERE IS IT....A COUPLE HUNDRED MILES BACK DOWN THE ROAD.

We go to NYC a lot to catch Broadway plays and we found a delightful little Italian Restaurant called Joe G's that we frequent. (Although our favorite waiter has sinced left..sigh)We used to travel a lot with my son following him to Judo Tournaments but haven't been able to recently, so we've stayed fairly local, trying different places. But Family owned is usually the best. The chains get so boring.

Usually a locally owned Mom & Pop is our choice! Depending where we're heading..if to SoCal on 5 we try to time a meal at Harris Ranch, about the only really good place between here and there. If we take 101 we usually Stop at the Apple Farm in SLO....very good eats and restful stops. If heading north along coast we keep any eye our for local fish shacks!
