Question #376

We are expecting cold, wet, possibly icy weather this weekend here in Texas ....

So ... my question for today ... do you have a favorite recipe for a pot of soup or chili or stew that you like to have on the stove or in the crockpot during a cold, rainy/icy, weekend??

Actually I like both chili and stew going, then you can have a bowl of Half & Half (hopefully I don't have to elaborate or explain that one :-) ). The other cold weather food I love is a good bowl of Fish or Seafood Chowder like they serve in Maine.

Rotel dip

Chili - made from Wick Fowler's 2-Alarm Chili Mix

Stew

half & half

Tater soup - very easy - boil up some taters....drain.... smash a little...milk (or cream)...butter...salt & pepper...cheese and chopped onions on top.

We are a family that thrives on comfort food. You can tell just by looking at me. We love home-made chicken soup, chili, beef stew, nine bean soup, all the greats. I'll be at the grocery today, so I'll make my mind up about this weekend then.

NOPE,THERE IS A HOSPITAL TWO BLOCKS
ON UP THE HILL, AND THE CENTRAL FIRE STATION IS DOWN THE HILL SO THE PLOWS AND SALT TRUCKS CLEAN MY
STREET RIGHT NOW. IT IS PAID FOR BY
HAVING PLENTY OF SIRENS THE REST OF THE YEAR. I OFTEN THINK THEY TURN
UP THE VOLUME ON THOSE SIRENS FROM
1 TO 3 IN THE MORNING.
THAT TATER SOUP SOUNDS INTERESTING,
ARE THE ONIONS COOKED FIRST BEFORE
GOING ON TOP, [THE OL' GIZZARD CANT
HANDLE RAW ONIONS]

Yes....My Mom's Stew was super good and my hubby has finally perfected his Chili Recipe. I always make sure he makes double the recipe so we can freeze it in smaller containers and pull it out and reheat when needed, In fact, I'm going to have him make Chili this Saturday for The Beagles vs The Saints Game! Goooo Eagles! I may even break down and have a bottle of Corona with it!Woo Hoo!Hopefully, I'll have my elliptical tomorrow afternoon and can work off any damage! LOL

My fave is to put a big pot of soup on. Usually all the odds and ends in the freezer and frigde and I freeze the extras for dinners and lunches later. Nummy! (ok, I want to go home and cook now. It was minus 8 at my house.)

anyone want to stop by my house tomorrow for soup?

Gumdrop,

The onions can be cooked with the taters if you like. I happen to enjoy raw purple onions on mine.

And for all of those who like chili and stew, try putting a ladel of each into the same bowl... yummmmeeeee! (1/2 and 1/2)
