Nope. Not yet

I've been looking for these women for the past 8 years. No luck, I've been asking pals from high school, but no word from any of them either. Nicki's mom was German/Swiss, and Nicki went to university in Paris, so for all I know, she's still in Europe somewhere living a very suave life. Lexi's parents worked for Radio Free Europe; most of those folks are retired and live either still in Europe or in the northeast. No luck there.

PEF & I dropped by Carla's house just last fall to see if she still owned her house in Riverside. We talked for a few minutes. Exchanged cards, said we would get in touch, but have not. It was awkward to be honest. We have both grown and created new lives and somehow our friendship reminds us of a very tough time in our lives.

Which leads me to a theory I have about relationships: People come into our lives at times when we need them or they need us. We don't know who needs whom, but boy, we are happy they are there. But as time goes by, maybe the need or the reason for that closeness fades and we drift apart. It does not diminish the friendship or the time together, it just changes and become great memories that carried you to the place you are now.

And then there are the other types of friends that grow with us and are there beside us for life. Those friends become family.
