After the proper amount of time has passed, nothing is too serious that it can't be joked about! Nothing! Humor is often the best way to relieve tension of a trajedy. Of course the key is knowing, what is the proper amount of time. If you don't believe me, remember the Definition of NASA, a joke told only hours after the Challenger explosion? Need Another Seven Astronauts! Now thats funny, I don't care who you are...
Nothing is tooserious to joke about - you just have to pick the right time and place. Picking the wrong time and place can be bad.
I am making the assumption here that the people you are addressing have senses of humor.
I think there are things/events that are never funny. Kidnapping,Child porn, Rape, abuse of any kind. Although I don't find jokes about adult situations inappropriate, somehow, it's never funny about a child.
Almost everything is funny given the proper amount of time AND consdering your audience. However, some things, may always be too painful or just in bad taste to bring up and make a joke about and most people have that good judgement.I remember a comedian, Sam Kinnisan, who I thought was extremely funny! But one Easter day, I turned on HBO and heard him doing his stand up routine on the Crucifixion of Jesus Christ and I thought that was in bad taste to run on that day....so I turned it off.
While I agree with most of you, there is a time and place for most jokes but I think these are a little beyond what we should joke about:
A soldier's dedication to his country and the willingness to do what most of us will or can not.
The dedication of our president to try and do the best that they can. And yes, even if they are not a Republican. You can joke about the person and the fumbles that occur, but to stand up and volunteer to do the job, that is something not to laugh about. I wouldn't want the job, would you?
And I agree with 'anonymous'. Hideous acts against society is 'off limits'....We all have herd jokes about 9/11, the Branch Dividian standoff, the OKC bombing - but really, should we joke about these things? I sure do not want to hear jokes about VA Tech and the shootings......
i think prejidice(dont know how to speel real good) is not funny at all neither is hitler
