The house where my loved ones and I have nested our souls is our home.
Most folks would say, and I would tend to agree with them that it is the inhabitants of the home (people & pets)and the life shared within that makes a house a home. I would submit there are other additional elements that are important as well, architectural elements. A true home is also very good architecture, not just a solid foundation and walls but the setting, the functional design and the asthetics should all compliment or say something about the family within. Good architecture is design that fits the surroundings inside as well as outside and ideally should create a greater harmony between the family and its natural surroundings. No place in a America, or the world for that matter, is this more evident than in Bear Run, Pennsylvania the site of the Kaufmann House, aka Fallingwater designed by Frank Lloyd Wright.
That is by FAR the hardest thing I have encountered in as far as a house is concerned. I don't decorate, I'm not good at it. A home is a place where I can go and relax and not worry. That ISN'T where I live. Structural changes based upon the seasons and noise rob me of that experience. In each and every room I can find evidence of this and it bothers me profoundly, and then again I'm totally helpless to do anything about it.
So in short I really don't know the difference between a house and a home.
Home is where the heart is ... as they say. And I do agree with that. For me ... home is where Tom is ... and where Robbie feels loved. Beloved pets add to that. Surrounding myself with books I love adds even more to that ... and a comfy chair and interent access ... and I am good to go!!
Well, not every home is a house and not every house is a home. Some homes are Tents (Yurts), some are RV's and other's Boats.... Home is a frame of mine. An emotion. A feeling.
House - well that's something material that I HOPE -> has ACME BRICK around it!!!! You know our motto: Acme Brick - The best thing to have around your house.
