you would first have to address the issues of why some folks are homeless...drug/alcohol addiction or just down on their luck. I would like to put enough money in an endowment so that the funding it took to help the homeless would be ongoing. It would take a LOT of $$. There would have to be a limit as to how long an individual could remain in the program or you would have individuals who would never seek to be self supporting. A tricky solution for sure. Not cookie cutter easy.

Well, there are always going to be homeless people for the reasons Carla mentioned and there are some who just will never be part of the norm.... by choice they will live on the streets no matter what you do.
So, how would I address the problem if I had endless means: I would set up a type of shelter. Not FREE, but if you want to stay in the shelter you have to work in some capacity. If you want services, you have to do something for the shelter or the community. 1 night at the shelter means you spend 1 day working in the kitchens, cleaning floors, working in the city parks.... etc.... and the work would have to be done BEFORE the shelter and services are provided.
I know it has flaws, but I haven't done a business plan or project plan on it yet.....I'll get back to you when I have endless means to do it....
This is a very tough question to answer if we are to be truthful about the answer. Nearly each and every one of us has the means to address this problem. It requires the individual sacrifice to help a fellow citizen get off the street, provide them a safe place to live, help and encouragement to get them back on their feet and self-sufficient. It also means that the homeless person in question must be willing to help themselves.
