I make up excuses for myself, but nobody believes them, even me.

Excuse making is fun - but don't doit to the extent that you believe them, 'casue nobody else will.

No, I do not try to make excuses for my mistakes. I take responsibility for my actions and try to make up for "mistakes" by sincere apology and setting things right if possible.

This is from years of being an RN -you have to take responsibility for errors or mistakes.

People do not believe "made up excuses", they just think you are an A@@ when you try it.

I learned long ago the addage, "To err is human." I'm one of those people who admits when I booboo. It's easier. Excuses feel like lies. They hurt the soul too much

It depends. For instance if that calculation is wrong sometimes I'll just say I'm wrong, or Microsoft did it. However there are other times when it may sound like an excuse but it's fact, such as 'the starter on my truck doesn't work intermitently and today was one of those days'. So it really all depends. Look for alot of this to happen in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.

I firmly believe that if I am the one to discover the error, and I correct it (or at least acknowledge it before someone else does!) then it isn't really a mistake. That's my way of making excuses...catching it before anyone else does.

And when I do make excuses, I'm really good at convincing folks to believe me! =)

I always make up excuses. It is like i am scared to death for someone to know that I made a mistake. It irritates me when I catch myself doing this because I realize I am doing something that my dad does that drives me nuts. It is like HELLO! You are not perfect and you do NOT KNOW EVERYTHING!!!!!!! someone smack me PLEASE!

You know what?? I really dislike excuses when they are given to me ... so I try very hard not to give them to others.

I do understand Hugh's point, though ... sometimes the excuses are REAL and HONEST .... but even then I hate to give them ... so I usually don't, unless the person specifically asks "WHY?"
