Question #15 from "The KIDS Book of Questions" by Gregory Stock, PH.D.

Some adults have a lot of trouble enjoying themselves. If you were asked to give them some advice about how to play and have more fun, what would you say?

Relax! Take your mind off your worries and enjoy whatever it is you are doing right now. Play a game of tag or kick-the-can with the neighborhood kids! Play catch, chase bugs, look really closely at anant hill (but stay away from it - those fire ants hurt!). Try to remember what it was like to be 10 on a carefree summer evening.

We adults seem to forget "being in the moment" when we grow up. We spend too much time thinking about stuff, and not enough time just enjoying what we have at that moment.

I actually had more trouble enjoying myself when I was a kid! I hated not being good at whatever I tried ... so if I didn't know I could win, I didn't try!

I am much more relaxed now!

Best advice .... LAUGH a happy laugh ... find people who make you laugh and hang with them ... and also be willing to laugh at yourself ... none of us is perfect.

I do have to agree with Cincin21, laugh. Learn to laugh at yourself; others will join you laughing at you...and then themselves.

When I reached a certain age, along about 35, I realized that I didn't feel any older than about 18 in my head. I realized that I'm growing older by not up. I realized that this helped me in my career (I'm a teacher of all things), and it helped me with getting over myself and other people who did grow up! I hope I never grow up.

So many adults are trying to make an impression on others and get all up tight.

Just be yourself and enjoy the present. There are so many beautiful and wonderous things in this world and it would be a shame to miss them.

Relax, take a deep breath and be thankful for all the things that we have and then you can play and have more fun.

Do not take yourself so seriously or worry about others may think of you.

ok...so you're the big dinosaur and i'm the one with the wings that flies really high and we're outside...going to find some water to jump in...and we run into this pink gorilla who is like the strongest of all the gorillas (stronger than the gray gorilla or the white gorilla or the green gorilla, but the black and gold gorilla is pretty strong...but the pink gorilla is still way stronger) so the pink gorilla says to go over there and there's water and stuff and we play and get wet and then our mom yells that we gotta go eat dinner and it's bugs and stuff with mud for dessert.

pretend silly stuff...

You hafta be prepared to look silly and not care what other people think...
