Okay, I grew up never having to suffer either. If you can believe that!!! I was a very spoiled only child, but I was also a very good child because I feared the SPEACH!!!

The speech always started "I am so disappointed with you..." And that would do it, I would be a blubbering fool.

Also, I feared the wrath of my father. He was/is a very angry man that can yell for hours at a time.

So - based on this: SPANKED! Get it over with....

Oh I so agree with Patr about the "bla bla bla", but rather than being spanked I know I would have more to mull over and see the error of my ways with a grounding. A spanking would leave me resentful and angry, forgetting what got me there.

Grounded - my parents used to beat me! Trust me you DON't want to go there!

Spanking every day and twice on Sunday! It is quick and the pain doesn't last too long and you can get back to mischief much more quickly.

I never had to suffer either one myself! I was a GOOD GIRL!!

I also never got the "I'm so disappointed in you speech" .... I basically gave MYSELF that speech whenever I screwed up. I greatly feared EVER disappointing my parents and tried desperately to avoid it for most of my youth.

I think I would choose the spanking ... but not whatever Hugh's parents did to him ... get it over with ... no worries, my sense of guilt will punish me WAY beyond the spanking ....

More comments: I also look at grounding as punishment for parents....If you have ever taken privledges away or forced your teen to stay home all weekend, you know what I'm talking about!!! My girlfriends are punished ALL the time!

All this being said, I like the way my SIL is raising her kids. She does take away or limit priviledges but for the most part the kids (who are very great kids) choose thier restrictions if they do something wrong. It is a decision they make. Which is so cool... they are always harder on themselves than Laurel or Barry would ever be.
