Question #418

From: The Kid's Book of Questions by Gregory Stock, Ph.D.

Q #75 ..... Did you ever stand up for something you thought was right even though a lot of people got upset with you?

If not, do you think you will ever be strong enough to do so?

I volunteered for the draft in 1972 - the Vietnam War was going on and it was extremely unpopular, but I went into the Army anyway.

I try to stand on principle in everything. This is not easy, especially in this day of political correctness and "anything goes" morality. The easy way out is to say nothing, but here is something important to remember:

"First they came for the Jews and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for the Communists and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me and there was no one left to speak out for me."

WOW .... Bronco ... I know you have no idea ... but I recenty added that very quote to the bottom of my posts in Fewl's Paradise ... along with several other quotes on silence.

The other quote I like is ... "In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends." MLK Jr.

I think that, too .... speaks volumes ....

I hope to have the chance to really speak up for something, someday. I stand my ground on certain things with certain people, but sometimes my world seems quite small.

And that is SO crazy that Bronco put the same quote as u. U must be cosmically connected! HOW AWESOME

Yes..frequently and recently! LOL ;~) I believe, true freedom is when you do the right thing not because you HAVE TO but simply because IT IS THE RIGHT THING TO DO.
