Is it our business? Interesting question. It is the business of "The People" of Texas as represented by applicable law enforcement to know that the laws of the state are being enforced and that if abuse of anyone, but especially children is taking place, that it will be addressed. Of course in our media frenzied society, we are going to see every tidbit of information which frankly I don't need. Let the authorities do their jobs, the process to proceed and justice to be served.
America has a long and sordid history of organizations hiding behind the religious freedom clause. If a rastafarian who breaks the law, and claims religious freedom and can nevertheless be arrested, then any organization that breaks the law and tries to hide behind the law is fair game. But this situation is particularly heinous. There are many reasons why it is not permitted by law to have sex with a minor. It is to protect their psyche, body, etc. The religious freedom was intended by our founders to avoid the decades of religious wars that plagued Europe, particularly the 30 years war from 1618 to 1648 in which Europe was devastated by the Catholic versus Protestant wars. These conditions do not at this time exist in America. Having sexual relations with a minor is simply against the law. When there is brainwashing occurring as well that lends even more impetus to the causitive action taken.
It is our business. Girls between 16 and 18 are pregnant...probably by the same man(men). That's just
I feel angry - at the people who have abused authority, at the media for exploiting the situation.
Is it our business, well, that is a tougher question. yes and no. There is too much media and new, but yet, if this was in our back yard, I sure as heck would want to know about it....
Considering the fact that 40+ year old men are having sex with multiple teen, and sometimes pre-teen girls, I believe it is "our" business. By "our" business, I mean law enforcement, etc., not the public. There is no need to talk about the situation every night on every news channel in every city. The girls, for the most part, didn't know what was happening was wrong and, in fact, thought it was exactly the way things should be. Were they happy with it? Probably not, but it's what they knew and what was expected. We need to respect that the kids are going through a horrific ordeal that will certainly scar them deeply and the media, and the public in general, needs to give them their space.
