No. At least my definition of torture.
Now, taking car privileges away from a teen is torture in the teen's eyes, but not in mine - now...
I think maybe a better question would be: Is torture ever effective?
In wartime it is most certainly justified and often used. Is it nice, wonderful stuff, no. But if it saves American or allies lives then it is most justified. This is what is often forgotten in the debate. And we are at war.
hmmm, seems like that is a vague question. Withholdng sex could be torture, not having chocolate for 30 days, withholding love & affection, cutting off fingertips, etc.
I guess it depends how each individual defines torture... if torture is done for personal gain, spite, and evil purposes the answer would be no.
If it were to get me home because I am being held hostage in deplorable conditions and they knew the information the would obtain thru torture was credible, I would no doubt say "go for it".
