Friendship.
Respect.
Compassion with a healthy does of forgiveness.
Good consistent respectful communication.
Friendship for sure, it is the one thing I have in my relationship now, that i did not have in my first marriage. If your husband/wife is your friend, it makes it hard to make choices that will negatively impact your friendship, hence your marriage.

I do not believe i could single down to just one. Friendship, compassion, love, honesty, communication, respect, and guidelines like, never go to bed angry. It's like a rope you need all of those tiny threads to make it strong.
