Question #48

Question #36 from "The Book of Questions" by Gregory Stock, PH.D.

If you knew you could devote yourself to any single occupation - music, writing, acting, business, politics, medicine, etc. - and be among the best and most successful in the world at it, what would you choose?

If you knew you only had a 10 percent chance of being successful, would you still put in the effort?

Explain ...

I would write. I really love writing.

However, I am happy doing what I do now (anyone needing a mortgage - visit www.TomMackinnon.com and apply online) regardless of the percentage of possible success.

I would probably choose to be a writer. I love writing ... and I would love to be really, really good at it.

Teaching would be another choice ... but I have seen people who are declared GREAT educators suddenly have no more time in the classroom because they are always out giving speeches and appearing at functions and their classes are taken over by substitutes. It seems like such a dichotomy to me.

As far as the 10% chance thing goes ... I think that most of us take on a career and put in lots of effort with even less hope than that of being the most successful at it ... yet we continue to strive ...

I would go into all the world and preach the Gospel. If even 10%, much less, one person were to accept it, it would be a success!!

Jesus Said in Luke 15:10

"In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents."

I would have to choose teaching. I do it now. I'm good at it, but I'd love to be better. Teaching is one of those things that is not a career per se; it's one of those things you can do or not; I think it's a talent. If you can do it, you can teaching anything, so you're not limited to a classroom; however that's where I like to be. I love to be "in front of a class" as well as part of a class. I knew as early as before I started school that this is what I wanted to do. I feel blessed in this way.
