Question #232

From: The KIDS' Book of Questions by Gregory Stock PH.D.

Are you in a hurry to grow up?

What does it mean to be a "grown-up", and when do you think it will happen to you?

(Or in our case, when do you think it did happen to you?)

"I don't want to grow up, I'm a Toy-R-Us kid . . ."

As I keep telling my wife, I am NOT childish, I am child-like, there is a difference!

I've grown older, but not up. I could not follow my career if I ever became a full fledged adult. Those are my parents and older brother!

I became more responsible and mature when I entered the work force and even more so when I had children but I endeavor always to possess the heart of a child!(Notice I said "endeavor". It doesn't come easy to me! LOL) I worry about my kids,my hubby, finances, etc.,but I always try to balance it with play time with them too. I enjoy laughing and singing and dancing silly dances and tossing a ball or frisbee and swinging on swings and believe it or not, I still enjoy coloring in color books!LOL(I used to paint and should try to get back to that)So, no, I'm NOT in a hurry to grow up OR grow older, for that matter! In the words of Kahlil Gibran: "A great man is he who never loses the heart of a child." And someone else said: "The difference between men and boys are the price of their toys." LOL

Bronco--I hope you always stay child-like!;~) You too Totsie!

The great American Architect Frank Lloyd Wright once said, "Being young is something that you can do nothing about. However, Youth is a quality and once you have it you never lose it. Bronco and I have it in spades.

Hmmmmmmm .... nope .... I don't wanna grow up .... 'cept I think it is too late.

I think in a way I have always been grown up ... I was the oldest of 4 kids each born a year apart ... I am pretty sure I took care of the younger ones even before I have memory of doing so ...

Grown-ups have to do the things their supposed to do without anyone telling them to do it .... like pay bills and take care of the house and get to work on time and responsible stuff.

Pffffffttttt ....

Grow up? Never Never Never
I believe in Neverland. Peter Pan, the Tooth Fairy, and Santa Claus, too.

I am with Totsie - I have grown older, but not up.

Have I? Yes, when I was a child, I was in a hurry to grow up.... I was a very 'serious' child as my mother used to say.

I'm not sure what it means to be grown up, but possibly being grown up means that you understand that being a kid was much more fun....
