Question #240

PEF offers this question based on Whole Foods Market's decision to stop selling live lobsters ...

"Do you think the process of catching, packaging live lobsters and transporting them by air to markets around the world is cruel and inhumane treatment that traumatizes the lobster?"

Ooh...risky being the first, but I'll live on the edge

No, I don't. Anthropomorphizing lobsters won't make them any less of an invertebrate. I figure if they are good enough for other lobsters to eat, they are good enough for me.

Bring on the tanks.

A bug is a bug is a bug. Just because it lives in the ocean and tastes REALLY GOOD when boiled and served with drawn butter does not make it any more or less a bug.

People who worry about crap like this need to GET A LIFE and stay out of mine.

Next thing you know, they will be yelling at me for burning ants with a magnifying glass (one of the more glorious acts of childhood)

I think it is hilarious that executives at Whole Foods actually met on this issue and made this decision! Their viewpoint on this is ludicrous, because after I have purchased my lobsters, presumably from Whole Foods, I will either do one of two things, drop their little butts in boiling water or take my French Chef Knife out and cut them from stem to stern ALIVE so that I can stuff them, bake them and eat them. But I am not a cruel guy. I have membership in PETA, and the group I am a member of stands for (P)eople (E)ating (T)asty (A)nimals!

No, but it tramatizes me. LOL

Love those little monsters with drawn butter and a dash of lemon.

Yummy.

I do step on spiders, and all lobsters and crabs are just big spiders, why not. They taste good with butter, cream sauce, on Texas toast. Ugh, you're making me want to blow my supposed diet. I say catch, band those claws, and send 'em my way...I have a big pot for them waiting with spiced water!

As "Fat Bastard" says, "Get in my belly!"

Just think, someone will stop offering carrots in the grocery, because they scream when they're pulled from the earth.

LOL Oh it's always great to start the day off with a laugh! You guys are so creative! I've only had lobster twice. (I know, I'm a cheap date!) Once, a long time ago, my boyfriend and I, picked out our Lobster and I got a little too close to the fella and couldn't kill him and eat him. It seemed too Barbaric. Plus, idiot boyfriend put him in the boiling water TAIL FIRST! OH! The pain that little guy must have felt! The next time was many years later. I was hosting a dinner party with another couple who happened to love lobster. Determined not to repeat the same mistake, I had hubby bring them home shortly before I needed to cook them. I put them in a large pot with some very good white wine and ever so slowly turned up the heat. The alcohol vapors knocked them unconcious...literally, they went to sleep! Then we continued to cook them. They were very tender and sweet and our dinner guests said it was the best lobster they had ever eaten! I, however, found that I had an allergy to shellfish! LOL C'est la vie!
I am older and wiser now and think it's totally idiotic for Whole Foods to stop selling live lobsters because they feel it's "inhumane treatment that traumatizes the lobsters". (And why just lobsters? What about the poor crab and the poor little shrimp? LOL) If that's the case, let the LOBSTERS organize, unionize, call the ACLU,picket, boycott, etc. Obviously they have a "Lobster Whisperer" who has been listening to a disgruntled shell fish or two!

I think all of you people are insane, to think that NO creature has feelings and laugh your tiny little brains over the garbage you think is soooo funny, that your posting here. All creatures feel pain just like all of us...To belittle PETA for all the good they do is also retarded, at least they think animals like us have feelings....And if you "need" to eat a live being and clog up your arteries, with all the butter you all "like" to pour all over it, and then wonder why you have Heart Disease later, with all the other animals you like to eat, do it humanely!!!
