I love working for myself. I do work longer hours and work harder now but it is very satisfying and I have met wonderful interesting buyers from all over the world.
I am doing this for myself and reap all the rewards without sharing except with Uncle Sam.
Of Course !!!!
I work in my PJ's if I wish and work when and how I want to make me happy. I can work morning, noon or night and get my work done and set my own deadlines.
I love it. What started as a "hobby" has grown into a full blown profitable business.
I like the idea that there is a direct relationship between how much / how hard / how well I work and the result I get. When you work for someone else - especially a large corporation - there is no direct correlation between work and reward. You can work really hard and long and well, and get your regular paycheck, and maybe a bonus, and maybe a raise each year, and maybe be recognized for your hard work, or you maybe laid off when "downsizing" is necessary.
On the other hand, you can just go through the motions, do just enough to get by, and still get that paycheck, and maybe a bonus, and maybe a raise each year, and maybe be liad off.
Not much difference between working hard for the "Man" and screwing off, is there?
When you workj for yourslef, assuming you know what you are doing and are working smart as well as hard, there is usually a direct result of that hard work.
I have been in both situations - used to be a worker bee in the corporate environment and am now working for myself (sort of - I am working for commissions as a mortgage Loan Officer). While there is some security in being a worker bee (no real job security exists anymore), there is the potential for a much greater reward in what I am doing now.
I prefer the latter.
If it seems that this question hit a hot button, you are correct.
Bronco - I couldn't have said it any better! I prefer working for myself, however I do not have that luxury at this time.
While owning and operating your own business does have it's own set of problems, it certainly beats working for someone else! Although the type of work my husband does, he still has to comform to "State Mandates" and "Federal Mandates" as related to MH/MR and Child Welfare Laws, but he can "tailor" his business the way he wants and hire those that share his vision and those that will bring something new and valuable to the business.
And while I enjoy working with him (most of the time),sometimes that has it's drawbacks as well. We never seem to "get away" from the business! LOL
Hope you all have a great day with sunshine and blue skies and low humidity! (Unless you NEED the rain! LOL)
First, thank you rh, for the hug. I appreciate the gesture. Some of my "friends" are telling me to get over it; it's nice to have people who can let me be where I am.
Work for myself or someone else? I could do either, well not really. I applaud those who strike out on their own, especially in education. I admire the strength and vision of people like Cincin who make their passion work for them. Right now in my life I am a follower. I need the support of the organization to provide for me as I try to heal. I think at some point I may be able to become self-determined. I do like the connections that bronco makes: effort/hard work/thought=remuneration/reward. It's something large organizations do not do.
EeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeWH!!!!!!!!!!
CIN PULEESE THERE ARE GIRLS HERE.

THAT W WORD WAS TAKEN FROM MY VOCABULARY ALONG WITH THE N WORD
WHEN I RETIRED IN 1990.
I would rather have my assets work for me and be on the 'fast path' thus out of the 'rat race', but alas, you need assets to do that, and days like today makes me wonder if we will make it there... The cheese seems quite far away.
And if I am downsized, I'm definitely going to try independant contracting with some friends in Oklahoma....They have been doing better than okay over the past decade.
As a business owner, the rewards are almost immeasurable in terms of sense of achievement and satisfaction.
Although I work harder for myself, I also work smarter.
The only thing I cannot control is the employee situation and that is a PITA.
The financial rewards for a self employed person are certainly there to be enjoyed, but only for those with a true sense of purpose.
I highly doubt I could ever settle into an employee role again..
