No - they are lousy parents. Steve Martin ahs a movie called Fatherhhod in which he comes to terms with the fact that his parents are lousy. Except in the movie Steve Martins' father expresses it verbally to Steve; thereby confirming it.
Its more about validation, something I have not and do not receive from my parents. It is their weapon which keeps them emotionally held in limbo because I long since moved on.

As much as I complain about them, I have to say I am proud of my parents. Neither had anything when they were growing up. Both were born during the depression and were poor. My dad's father died when he was 14; Dad was forced to quit school at 16 to support his family of 5 brothers, a sister, his mom, and a nephew because his mother would not work. I'm convinced he would have been a much nicer person if his mother had gotten off her butt to support her family. My mother's parents divorced when she was 2, so my mother had literally nothing. She was supported until she married by her grandfather. Her aunts were witches to my grandmother, my uncle and my mom.
Neither parent finished high school, but they did complete their educations. My dad ended up as a social worker and then ran a liquor store. My mom ended up a nurse. Both are retired. My mom voluteers with Austin Smiles. She works with a team of surgeons and nurses who travel to Central and South America to repair children's cleft lips and palats. She's sort of a celebrity in El Salvador. She apprears on TV each trip she makes (she's made about 50 trips since she retired).
I guess I am proud of them.
Absolutely 100% Proud as I can be.
My Dad was in the US Army for over 30 years and retired as a Major General (2 stars for those who do not know). He then was an Executive VP for Bell Helicopter running their extensive operations in Iran (before the revolution there), and then was President of Aerospatiale Helicopter Corporation (now American Eurocopter) - they make many of the helicopters for the Coast Guard among others. He fought in three wars and found time to love and support all his sons in a positive manner.
My Mom held the family together through all the tough times when my Dad was off doing Army stuff - and raised 4 sons into responsible adults - not an easy task. She gave up her own ambitions to be a wife and mother and any regrets she may have had she kept to herself. She was a rock!
Although they are both gone now, I love them unabashedly and unreservedly to this day.
I'm extremely proud of my parents, especially my dad. The things he's managed to accomplish in his lifetime are way too numerous to even try to go into here and he was and is an awsome dad on top of that.
As much as I complain about my mom, she was a good mom. She just drives me nuts sometimes. I'm afraid I see myself in her sometimes and that drives me nuttier. LOL
Very much so, see the previous post from me.
