Question #304

From "The KIDS Book of Questions" ....

If a good friend did something bad and you were asked if you knew anything about it, would you lie to keep your friend from getting into trouble?

Why or why not?

This question presupposes that I knew about what my friend did and that I knew that it was wrong. Can we define how bad is bad here? If I have plausable deniability is it really a lie? See the real trick is subterfuge....

Okay, if it is 'bad' and the person is a true/real friend, they would understand that I am NOT going down with the ship if at all possible.

Why you ask? Because it is self preservation! and just the right thing to do.

Too many variables to give a direct answer. Who did his 'bad' action affect? What did he do (of course it was a he, my gf's would never do anything bad! LOL). If it was something such as adultery, I would tell him to own up and suffer the consequences but believe I would leave it be his news. If he abused or hurt anyone, my mouth would stay shut about zero point 2 seconds.

It really does depend on how Bad Bad is ....

I do tend towards honesty for the most part ... and I sure don't want to go down with the ship!! I am a CYA kinda girl ...

So basically ... if you have done something really bad ... don't tell me about it!!!
