Question #561

From "The Book of Questions" by Gregory Stock, PH.D

Q #93

While in the government, you discover the Speaker of the House is commiting extortion and other serious crimes. By exposing the situation you bring about the Speaker's downfall, but your career would be destroyed because you would be framed, fired, and publicly humiliated on other matters. Knowing you would be vindicated five years later, would you blow the whistle? What if you knew you would never be vindicated?

Finally an easy question - Simple you blackmail the Senator to cut you into the deal in exchange for your silence, always reminding him or her how valuable you are to their career and of the symbiotic bond you have formed, thus securing plenty of consideration for your constituents thereby ensuring your constant re-election. And if he double crosses you, you take him down...

I see that PEF is a true politician - always seeking the edge, ethics be damned.

I would blow the whistle as fast as I could get it to my mouth - it is the right thing to do, regardless of the personal consequences.

The major problem with Washington today is the lack of a moral compass and principles shown by our elected officials (and it don't matter what party they are).

First and foremost on any elected official's mind is staying in office - all else revolves around that. Number 2 is lining their pockets. Actually doing the right thing by the country and the people who elected them is at the bottom of the list if it is on the list at all.

Cynical? Maybe

Realistic? Yup.

Amazing how you can use satire to prove a point isnt it?

Vendication or not, I would have to go public. The stress of concealment for myself would be too great. I'm to honest to go into politics.

I agree - fianlly a non-bizarre question.

PEF - I beleive I met you in the past, but I didn't realize the depths of your moral interpitude.

Situation - 'to spite your nose off your face' or whatever.

Yes, I would do it without reservation.

Fairplay is fairplay, and this person isn't playing fair. Besides if this jackass is doing it too others, it's only a metter of time before he/she turns their attention to YOU! So you've got a choice. Get him/her before they turn their attention on you, or wait till he/she comes after you either way it's gonna happen.

Yeah right, get in bed with him/her. Thats a SMART move! - NOT!

Fortunately I DO NOT have a direct family so I needn't take into account wife or kids. However I do have sisters and brothers. If you have somebody elses well being at stake, the tables are turned.
