Q #94
On a busy street you are approached apologetically by a well-dressed stranger who asks for a dollar to catch a bus and make a phone call. He says he has lost his wallet. What would you do?
If approached in the same way by a haggard-looking stranger claiming to be hungry and unable to find a job, what would you do?

First of all a dollar does not provide you enough funds to catch a bus and barely enough to make a phone call these days. That would immediately arouse my suspician that the money is going to be used for something else entirely. I might challenge him as to the real use for the money, but in all likelihood I would not give him the money. As for the stranger who was hungry, I would offer to buy him lunch, not give him money.
I would buy the haggard individual some food, and probably give the $1 to the better dressed person.
What Rant said.
Regretfully, in these dangerous days and times, I don't give anything to anyone on the street.
I have herd the sad sad story about a mother who has passed away and the car needs repairs and the baby needs diapers.....by the same person 3 times here in FTW. Once when Montgomery Wards was still open on 7th, then again at Will Rogers, then a few weeks later at TGI Friday's at Ridgemar. It was the same gentleman! Scam artists are everywhere.....plus, a distraction like this is how cars get stolen, purses get taken and worse yet, people get abducted. (Do any of you recall the retired TCU professor a few years ago during the Christmas season?)
Depends on if my hubby was with me. If he was, I would do the same as Rant Master suggests. If alone, I'd keep walking...sad to say.
Sad to say...I would walk past both. There are just too many scams and I'm just not very trusting anymore.

I don't tend to talk to strangers. However, I'll give a dollar to someone.
