From: The KIDS' Book of Questions by Gregory Stock PH.D.

Do you have different personalities for when you are with your family, your friends, online, etc?

How So?

Only around my parents, otherwise I'm just me.

I sure hope not - but it seems to me that is for others to determine. I have noticed that some people seem to have a "work persona" and a "not work persona".

I wonder whether the people like this are aware of the differences?

We all wear masks after all - the masks that life helps us build. Hopefully, the people we love get the "real" us - warts and all - but I suspect many of us do not really know ourselves well enough (or have fooled ourselves for too long) to tell the difference between the real us and the masks we wear.

And, I suspect that some of us are too shallow to have any "real" behind the masks (No one on this site of course)

It is way to early on a Monday morning for this type of insight and introspective thinking, so I will stop now.

Did you hear the one about the three legged pig?

I will defer to Billy Joel in answering today's blog - he said it best I believe.

Well, we all have a face that we hide away forever
And we take them out and show ourselves
When everyone has gone
Some are satin, some are steel
Some are silk and some are leather
They're the faces of a stranger
But we love to try them on

Well, we all fall in love but we disregard the danger
Though we share so many secrets
There are some we never tell
Why were you so surprised
That you never saw the stranger
Did you ever let your lover
See the stranger in yourself

{Refrain}
Don't be afraid to try again
Everyone goes south every now and then, oo-ooh
You've done it, why can't someone else
You should know by now, you've been there yourself

Once I used to believe I was such a great romancer
Then I came home to a woman
That I could not recognize
When I pressed her for a reason
She refused to even answer
It was then I felt the stranger
Kick me right between the eyes

Well, we all fall in love but we disregard the danger...

{Refrain}

You may never understand how the stranger is inspired
But he isn't always evil
And he is not always wrong
Though you drown in good intentions
You will never quench the fire
You'll give into your desires
When the stranger comes along

Different nuances yes, different personalities no. At work, meeting new people, speaking in front of a crowd - - I'm me and have the same values, convictions and soap boxes. However, I am probably more subtle and subdued in these instances than I am in a more casual setting with poeple I know.

LOL...I just have different personalities. I don't know if they are directed specifically at anyone.

Yes they are

Oh hush, who said you could speak?

I did

See what you started Cin? Now I'll never get them to shut up and let me get my work done.

I agree with patr. I have different nuances but the basic "me" is always there in some way, shape or form and if you give an Appletini or 2.....but I digress! And Bronco...I sure did hear about that 3 legged pig! What a special pig it was! LOL I love Billy Joel too! Gumdrop...you're a riot! Hey winefairie sweetie...isn't it time to back to your special room and put on your lovely jacket with the long sleeves? (My voices told me to tell you that! LOL MUAH!)

I used to act different around my Mom until I decided life was too short. I think that I act the same at home as I do at work. Now, my husband on the other hand......
