Yes - for instance the patent for the telephone was won by Bell by minutes, yet the men who placed the patent applications were separated by a wide distance.
Comets are usually thought as harbingers of bad omen.
Coincidence and Synchronicity happen everyday. If you recognize it you have participated in it. At it's deepest level it 'taps' into the collective unconscious, an archetype that can not scientifically be proven.
However if you read the collaboration of Wolfgang Pauli and Carl Jung there is alot of food for thought there. For instance Wolfgang would dream ideas, blog about it the next day, then months to years latter with a distant collaborator with his blog as evidence.
